International contacts and networking play a major role in science and also offer a good opportunity to learn new things.
With this in mind, our research assistant Sören Meyer zu Westerhausen approached colleagues from the Politecnico di Torino in Italy to work with them on topics relating to optimal sensor placement and deformation reconstruction techniques during a research visit.
He spent September and October 2024 in the ‘AESDO (Aircraft and Engine Structural Design and Optimisation)’ research group headed by Prof. Marco Gherlone.
Together with his colleagues on site, he was able to successfully investigate the possibilities of using the algorithm ‘RGA4FEM’ (link to paper) he developed for more robust and faster optimal sensor placement and for use in the so-called inverse FEM.
We are happy to have Sören back with us and look forward to a successful collaboration and to future publications in cooperation with our colleagues in Turin!
